1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Travelling In Time Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17321950, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom) ("we", "us"). By installing or using Travelling In Time (the "App") you agree to these Terms.
If you are under 18 years old, your parent or legal guardian must accept these Terms on your behalf. The App is designed for children aged 6 to 12 under parental supervision.
2. Licence, free tier and Full Access
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and Apple's standard App Store Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, we grant you a non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use the App on Apple devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use.
Free download. The App is free to download and includes a free tier: the map, short facts and introductions for every place, a fixed number of story unlocks with their quizzes, coins and achievements, and a limited CarPlay Discovery Drive. The free tier is a genuine product, not a timed trial, and it never expires.
Full Access. Additional content — every story, every tour, the complete time-machine collection, unrestricted CarPlay narration and future Full Access content — is available by purchase in the Grown-up Area:
- Monthly Full Access and Yearly Full Access are auto-renewing subscriptions.
- Lifetime Full Access is a single payment with no renewal.
Prices are shown in the App Store and in the Grown-up Area at the time of purchase, in your local currency. All purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple ID; we never see your payment details.
Subscriptions. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the price shown when you subscribed, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. You can view, change or cancel a subscription at any time in your device Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions; cancelling stops future renewals and you keep Full Access until the end of the period already paid for. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. If we change a subscription price, Apple will tell you in advance and, where Apple's rules require it, ask for your agreement before the new price applies. Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store terms.
Family Sharing is enabled for Full Access, so one purchase covers every child in your Apple Family.
Schools. Devices managed by a school or other educational institution may be granted Full Access at no charge through device management. No purchase user interface is shown on such devices.
Earlier purchasers. If you bought Travelling In Time when it was sold as a paid app, you keep Full Access for as long as the App is available, at no further charge.
There is no advertising in the App and there are no other in-app purchases.
3. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from the App, except as expressly permitted by applicable law
- Redistribute, sell, sublicense, rent, or lease the App or any bundled content
- Use the App, or any content generated by it, to train, develop, evaluate, or benchmark any machine learning or AI model
- Remove, obscure, or alter any attribution, copyright, or licensing notice, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Historic England, and UNESCO World Heritage credits
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could harm a child
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the App, or attempt to bypass its safety filters
4. Educational content
Historic content is curated from public sources including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Historic England open data, and UNESCO World Heritage data, under their respective open licences. We make a reasonable effort to keep content accurate and age-appropriate, but we do not warrant that every fact is current, complete, or free of error. The App is a starting point for learning, not a primary academic source.
5. AI-generated content
Some features use Apple's on-device language model to generate short quizzes, narrations, and reading-level adaptations. AI output is filtered for child-appropriate tone before being shown. Despite our safety measures, AI output may occasionally contain errors, omissions, or unexpected phrasing. We do not warrant the accuracy of AI-generated content. Parental supervision is part of the App's design.
6. Parental responsibility
A parent or legal guardian:
- Is solely responsible for any purchase or subscription made in the Grown-up Area
- Decides whether to switch on Encyclopedia Mode, which replaces the curated child-safe summaries with unedited public Wikipedia articles, including darker historical material. It is off by default, lives in the Grown-up Area, and switching it on requires Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode; switching it off never does. It needs an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) because the articles are fetched live from Wikipedia; without one, the curated summary is shown instead, and mobile data charges from your network provider may apply
- Must grant on-screen consent for AI features at first launch
- Should supervise any use that involves GPS or movement outdoors
- Is responsible for choosing whether and when to enable optional features such as Game Center
All purchases sit behind a parental gate (Apple's Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode, with an adult check as fallback) and are processed by Apple. Where a family has enabled Apple's Ask to Buy, that applies too.
7. Safety
The App uses real-time GPS to render the map and to provide SatNav-style directions. Outdoor use must be supervised by an adult. We are not responsible for choices a user makes about where to walk, run, or drive while using the App. A driver must never look at, touch or operate the iPhone or iPad while driving. In a vehicle, use the App through CarPlay, which plays stories hands-free, or let a passenger operate it, and always follow the Highway Code and local laws.
8. Intellectual property
The App, its source code, design, audio, illustrations, and branding are owned by Travelling In Time Ltd or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Open-licensed third-party content is used under the terms of its respective licence and credited in Settings → Licensing & Attribution.
9. Updates and availability
We may release updates, fixes, and feature changes at any time. We may also withdraw the App from sale or stop supporting older iOS versions. The content included in Full Access may change over time as we add and retire material. We will not remove Full Access from a Lifetime purchase, from an earlier paid-app purchase, or from a subscription period you have already paid for, except where required by law, safety, or the loss of a third-party dependency outside our control.
10. Privacy
Use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, also available in the App at Settings → About → Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against all threats, or compatible with every device or future iOS version.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any statutory consumer right that you cannot waive under the law of your jurisdiction, including, where applicable, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 of England and Wales.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or related to the App, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory, is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the App or for Full Access in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to liability.
In no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of goodwill, loss of data, or business interruption, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Nothing in this section limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Travelling In Time Ltd harmless from any third-party claim arising out of your misuse of the App, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of applicable law. This indemnity does not apply to claims caused by our own negligence, wilful misconduct, or breach of these Terms.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your licence to use the App if you materially breach these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. Sections that by their nature should survive (sections 3, 4, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18) survive termination.
15. Children's Terms
If the user of the App is a child under the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction (16 in much of the European Economic Area, 13 in the United States), a parent or legal guardian must accept these Terms on the child's behalf. Their acceptance binds both adult and child to the Terms.
16. Changes
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The current version always appears on this page and in the App with an updated effective date. If a change materially reduces your rights or expands your obligations, we will display a notice in the App on the next launch after the change.
17. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute, except that nothing in this section limits any mandatory consumer-protection law that applies in the country where you live.
18. Severability
If any part of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining parts continue in full force.
19. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, form the entire agreement between you and Travelling In Time Ltd regarding the App.
